I have taken Leona’s Management Training Series and it truly helped with understanding different methods of managing and different approaches. Leona helps convey the trainings through different scenarios of role playing, handouts and great conversation. I will use the tools she provided to carry me through my management career!

Leona is a breath of fresh air in the HR profession. Her empathy and honesty are a nice change from the usual practitioner. Leona's common sense approach to issues is paired with her great knowledge of the field. I feel confident when working with her, and I get the sense that no issue is too difficult to resolve. Over the course of five years, I had the opportunity to work closely with Leona Wilson as she provided consultative services to Erin Mills Youth Centre where I was working as the executive director. What began as an initiative to provide a comprehensive update to our HR policies turned into an ongoing service provision that had a profound impact on our ability to navigate HR matters. To begin with, Leona’s revision of the agency’s HR policies was as relevant as it was thorough, bringing a variety of documents together into a logical whole, and bolstering materials as needed. The way she helped the board process the changes from the existing policies made for quality engagement and left us confident that the result was what the agency needed. Updates included AODA and safe workplace sections that positioned the agency to comply with incoming legislation and demonstrate to staff a genuine interest in their well being.

Moving on from that work, Leona availed herself to me on more than one occasion to navigate complex HR matters. Her ability to listen and understand the issues facing an organization are bolstered by her extensive experience. She would make recommendations, explain them to me and, as needed, the board, and allow us the space to make decisions that we believed were best for the agency.

Leona also was able to act as an intermediary between staff and the agency on occasion when concerns were expressed. Her wisdom mingled with her extensive professional knowledge and calm demeanor helped us work through each situation in ways that ensured both the rights of the employee, and the needs of the agency, were addressed. Speaking with my colleagues over the years, I have come to realize just how valuable Leona’s insights and support were for my work at EMYC. I would highly recommend her to any agency looking to her for HR services.
